Account security upgrades

Vetusia account passwords are now protected with scrypt, a password-hashing algorithm deliberately designed to be slow and memory-hungry to compute -- which is exactly what makes it expensive to brute-force at scale, unlike the fast, cheap hashing schemes the original servers of that era actually used. Even if our account database were ever exposed, cracking passwords out of it would be far harder than it would have been on the original 2006 infrastructure.

That protects the password itself, but it cannot help if you reuse a password that leaked from some other, unrelated site -- so we recommend a password that is unique to Vetusia, not reused anywhere else.

If you ever forget it, account recovery lets you reset your password two ways: using the recovery key you can generate from the Account page (write it down somewhere safe -- it is shown only once), or through the e-mail address registered on your account, if you set one.
